Tom McLennan makes debut appearance in the Top End

Another circuit can be ticked off the list for Tom McLennan as he gained crucial experience and points at Hidden Valley Raceway.

McLennan came off a strong weekend in Monchrome GT4 Australia at The Bend where he scored two podium results as part of Chaz Mostert’s Method Motorsport attack pairing with Nathan Morcom in a new McLaren Artura GT4.

Aiming to bring this momentum across to the highly competitive Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship where McLennan last time out scored solid results.

Arriving in Darwin, McLennan beat many more experienced competitors in the Earl Bamber Motorsport Porsche supported by Macpro to qualify 11th.

The opening race ended in disappointing fashion with a retirement, but McLennan bounced back to finish 12th and 14th in the remaining events to leave Darwin with plenty of experience.

Next up for McLennan is the Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship round at Sydney Motorsport Park on July 19-21.

“It was a bit of an up and down weekend,” McLennan reflected.

“We had a really good qualifying in 11th, which is the highest qualifying position that I’ve had all year.

“It’s really tight here. The track is short, so everyone’s within a couple of tenths of each other.

“In Race 1 I had a DNF. We got into a racing incident at the opening corner and I continued on, but we had some bumper damage which was blocking the airflow into the radiator resulting in the temperature rising. Just to protect the engine, we had to come in a few laps from the end.

“Fortunately, we qualified 11th for Race 2 as well and we ended up 12th for that race.

“Race 3 I started 19th due to the DNF and we finished 14th, so we’ll roll it around for Sydney, which will be great under lights.”
